Believe it or not, this was one of the more pleasant aspects of this job for me, mostly because Gary from Northwest Stair and Rail was so awesome to work with. He took a tough, unpleasant job and made it look easy.

- The stringers are heavy. ‘Stringer’ is contractor-speak for the part of the stair that holds up the treads (the part you actually walk on.)

- Steel plates are welded to a steel header that is bolted into the concrete beams.

- The steel plates will hold the top of the stringers and the upper hand rail.

- The stringers are positioned and tacked in place.

- Our foreman, Magruder (on the left in the red ball cap) and Gary from NW Stair (on the right in the coveralls) discuss the placement of the stringers.

- There’s Magruder putting a level on the parts of the stringers that will hold the stair treads. Yep. Perfect.

- Temporary treads are installed so that Gary and his crew have something to stand on while they weld the hand rail.
